4. To promote a culture of sustainability and collective action within the community.

The SDG Club of Dr. D. Y. Patil B-School organized an impactful initiative titled “Localizing Plastic Action Through Communities (L-PAC)” on 15th October 2025. The program aimed to address the growing concern of plastic waste management and foster sustainable practices among students and the local community. This initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13 – Climate Action).

The drive began with an orientation session conducted by SDG Club members, highlighting the purpose of L-PAC and explaining proper methods of collection and segregation of plastic waste. Students were divided into teams and assigned zones around the campus and nearby community areas.

Armed with gloves, bags, and segregating bins, participants systematically collected various types of plastic waste, identifying recyclable and non-recyclable materials. Faculty coordinators supervised the activity to ensure safe and effective waste handling. The collected plastic was later handed over to an authorized local recycling partner.

The enthusiastic participation of over 100 students demonstrated a strong commitment toward eco-friendly practices. The event also included an interactive reflection session where students shared insights about minimizing single-use plastics and adopting sustainable habits.

Outcomes

1. Approximately 50 kilograms of plastic waste were collected and segregated.

2. Enhanced environmental consciousness among the student community.

3. Strengthened partnerships between the institution and local sustainability networks.

4. Student volunteers pledged to continue promoting plastic-free habits in their daily lives.

Conclusion

The “Localizing Plastic Action Through Communities (L-PAC)” initiative stood as a remarkable step toward environmental stewardship. The SDG Club successfully mobilized student energy for a meaningful cause and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to sustainability. The drive not only cleaned the surroundings but also cultivated a deep sense of ecological responsibility, inspiring participants to be sustainable changemakers in the fight against plastic pollution.
